Exhilaration Road Hike

Just stretching the legs in the low country. I sure love the SX70 for fast/far hiking photography.  Canon SX70

Desert Hike

Today I went over west of Delta and did some hiking in the Cottonwood Canyon area.  I usually hike down into the bottom, but not today.  I found some really interesting rock rectangular blocks.  Many looked almost like they had been cut that way.  There were a few signs of spring coming to the desert too. I noticed from the canyon rim that a grand old ponderosa in the bottom had died. I sat to eat lunch under it several times. Another pine beetle victim.  It was a very cool day and fairly breezy.  Hiking is always good....to me!

Kinnikin

This was just an evening ride up on Kinnikin to see if there were any critters.  Only a few were out.  The calf elk appeared to be sickly and could not get up.  I suspect it will be coyote food by morning.  SonyRX10IV

Ouray

Today we took Sharon and went up Ouray way.  We stopped at Ridgway and hiked a bit and then went on up as far as Bear Creek Falls.  We spotted a couple bighorn sheep on the mountain side while at the falls. The last photo is Mt. Ridgway - I've been up there.  SonyRX10IV

Escalante Wildlife Refuge

It's heron nesting time.  We rarely catch it before the refuge closes on March 15.  But, this year we did.  They are fun to watch.  It's amazing how those big birds can balance on the very small dead cottonwood branches.  I also saw on Ebird that there were some trumpeter swans at Sweitzer's Lake so we stopped there.  Sure enough - it appeared to be a female and her young.  It's rare they're in these parts.  Canon70D

Gunnison

Today we went up Gunnison way and ended up at Pitkin again.  We also wandered up to Taylor Park. The hi-light of the trip was a group of mountain sheep on the rocks near the highway.  The younger ones were very curious, but seemed to think the rocks mostly hid them.  Canon 70D
