I hiked about 6.25 miles in Sanborn today.  I was hoping to get in on the elk rut.  Nothing.  I didn't hear anything at all.  I've not gotten in on any elk rutting this year.  Everybody says they are late and that seems to agree with my experience so far.  Oh well - it was a great hike anyway.  It started out cool and quickly became quite hot.  I was shocked at how many large ponderosas have died this summer.  I'm sure it's a combination of drought and pine beetles.  Sad.  I always thank the Lord profusely when I'm out hiking...that I am able to do it and be in such beautiful places.  Nikon P950
