Cushman

Today Allen and I went up on Cushman in his Ranger. It was pretty warm. We went to within a half mile of the end of the road.  Last week was only in the 20’s. But most of the winter has been warm and dry. Very little snow in Montrose. There is not much on Cushman either. We didn’t see any coyotes though there was scat several places in the road. We only saw a few deer which was surprising. It was a very good day.

Exhilaration Rd

Today I took a hike in the Exhilaration Road country. Just a little three miler. I built a mini fire and roasted a hotdog. I saw some elk and there were elk tracks everywhere. They are really low for such a mild winter. Once again I only shot video so these are frame grabs. It was a nice walk in the mid 30s and sunny. I’m sure blessed.

Ridgway

Went for a ride with Allen today. We went up on log hill and down around Ridgway. Saw quite a few deer and a couple elk. The clouds on the Sneffels range were gorgeous, but kind of hazy. I only shot video today so these are stills from the vids. Nikon P950

Crag Road

It was a cloudy day with snow all around. I took off on a hike in the Crag Road area. I didn’t see anyone. It was a fun outing. They had used a bulldozer on the road, but it didn’t do much but tear up some trees. On the way home I detoured through Shavano. The deer are coming back. For several years it was rare to see any down there. There were 30-40 that I saw tonight. Once again these are frame grabs from video. Nikon P950 and GoPro 12.

4 Wheeling

We’d been trying to sell the 4wheeler, but have not had any takers. I’d prayed that we would know if we should sell it or not. Since it’s been for sale for several months with no success, maybe we would be hasty to sell it. On this beautiful 50 degree day we decided to put it to use again. We hadn’t ridden since summer. We started up West Transfer but they have a sign closing it to anyone but landowners starting December 1. We turned around and headed down a side road ending up at the Roatcap dam. We then headed up the Roatcap Rd. It was not closed???  We pulled off on a side trail and built a small fire and roasted a couple hotdogs. We sat on the ground like Indians and had a good snack. Haha. After we headed on up the road and went not quite to Roubidoux. We did about 20 miles. It was a good day. Thank you Lord!  BTW, I’m challenging myself to shoot only the point and shoot cameras during January. I’m enjoying the simplicity again so far. Canon SX70

Sandy Wash Hike

My first little hike of the new year. I went across a couple dips and was surprised to see human tracks all over. But, it could have been mostly from a sheep herder as there were also sheep tracks everywhere. I built a mini fire just to keep the bushcraft skills working. It was very warm…upper 40s. It’s been above normal temps going back to last spring. Nikon P950
